Letters of Support
These letters are the "unique messages" from the 2009 Electronic Petition from when then Governor Perdue announced that he was going to eliminate funding for School Nurses. This petition elicited over 15,000 responses, and helped to save School Nurse Funding that year. The petition had a message provided that Georgians could use when they signed the petition (below) or they could write their own. We implore you to read their words. Click on the "more" at the end of the paragraph to read/print the whole story. It is a different year. It is a different budget. The story is the same. We need School Nurses!
"Please reinstate funding for school nursing into the DOE budget. School nurses are the vital link to the health and safety of our children at school. Many children will not be able to safely attend school regularly if there is no nurse to provide and monitor required skilled procedures like diabetic assessment, calculations and treatment, feeding tubes, catheterizations and assisting with breathing equipment. Growing numbers of children suffer from asthma, insulin-dependent diabetes and severe allergies - conditions that can require life-saving intervention at school. More children are on controlled prescription drugs or medical regimens that require professional assistance and monitoring at school. Healthy children learn better. School nurses improve student and teacher attendance. School nurses care for the sick and injured children so that teachers are free to teach their classes. These measures improve test scores and graduation rates. School nurses help children remain is school so parents do not have to leave their jobs unnecessarily. Please do not eliminate funding for school nurses."
