HB 403—SN legislation from the study commission was approved for funding (grant money) to be placed in the QBE funding formula
The Quality Basic Education (QBE) Formula is used by the Georgia DOE to fund positions in public schools • QBE was enacted in 1985 as an attempt to provide the basics of direct and indirect instructional costs to Georgia’s public schools. QBE has never been fully funded.
-Provides for one nurse to 750 students in elementary schools
-Provides for one nurse to 1500 students in middle and high schools
-To be phased in over 3 years (2015)
They offered one amendment that requires those funds to be used on the School Nurse program.
HB 879--Committee voted favorably on the 16th, next step is for Full House vote. The General Calendar for the Full House does not show the date for this next step.
No recommendations were made for us to take action at this time. GASN needs you to continue contacting your legislators about the need for a school nurse in every school in the state of Georgia.
